POSITION TITLE: Back Up Driver (Part Time. Week days to fill in as needed)
LOCATION/DEPT: Golden Diners Nutrition Program
REPORTS TO: Site Manager
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: Part-Time
OUTCOMES
It is necessary the Back Up Driver be familiar with the purpose and philosophy of the Program and in hearty accord with the same, namely:
To provide older Americans, 60 years of age and over, with low cost nutritionally sound meals. Promote better health among the older segment of our population through improved nutrition, thus reducing the isolation of old age, and offering the older American the opportunity to live their remaining years in dignity. Offer cooperation with the total program, and be willing to offer suggestions for improvement and to step into an emergency (should the need arise).
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist kitchen personnel with portioning food into individual containers. Assist with packing meals for the routes.Deliver meals on route assignment of the day.Maintain temperatures so that hot meals are held at 140oF or higher and cold foods are held at 40oF or lower and keep Site Manager informed of any problems.Keep home delivered meal bags clean and sanitized.Watch for signs of any changes regarding participants, i.e., failing health or well enough to be removed from route, etc. Report to Site Manager anything deemed important about the participant.Maintain route records for alternate drivers.Return to site after meals are delivered to submit the following reports to Site Manager:Record of delivery (HDM daily delivery sheet)Changes for next dayNotify Site Manager of any concerns regarding clientsExercise care and caution while delivering meals by obeying all traffic rules.Personal appearance must be neat, clean and appropriate for representation of The Salvation Army.All other duties as assigned.Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Understand and practice of the regulations of food handling and sanitation.
Previous experience working with the older population helpful.
COMPETENCIES
Valid Drivers License.
Furnish own reliable car with adequate liability insurance.
Capable of following directions.
A wholehearted acceptance of the idea of service to older Americans, displaying empathy, an understanding of their needs, abilities, idiosyncrasies and appreciation for the opportunity of serving them.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter.

POSITION LIMITATIONS
This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
This individual will keep the Site Manager informed on all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.
This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. Must be able to lift or move at least 20lbs.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a vehicle.
Must be able to walk up and down stairs and operate a vehicle. May need to drive in inclement weather.
The work environment for this position includes an office or outdoor environment with a low to high noise level.
